JOB SUMMARY
  • The Motor Assessor is responsible for analyzing accident damages on insured vehicles, giving technical opinions/recommendations, investigating accidents, ensuring compliance with the set procedures, rules, and regulations, and defending the Company technically on legal issues to protect the company from losses.
  • The role holder will also be responsible for coordinating and supervising the performance of external motor assessors, repairers, Parts Suppliers, towing agents, and investigators.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Developing service level agreements (SLAs) for service providers – assessors, repairers, towing agents, and investigators.
  • Training the Claims Staff on emerging fraud trends in the motor industry.
  • Valuation of the Fleet vehicle for corporate customers.
  • Representing the company in forums for investigators and motor assessors.
  • Assessing damages and confirming consistency with circumstance i.e. by recording statements with insured drivers.
  • Carrying out on-site assessment of minor damage.
  • Quality control - peruse external assessors’ reports confirming the correctness of assessment and giving recommendations.
  • Carrying out audits on repairs and following through on findings by renegotiating costs with repairers.
  • Giving a technical opinion on the consistency of damage.
  • In conjunction with the head of the motor claims section, appoint investigators when necessary.
  • Verifying price of parts - especially open market prices for various makes of motor vehicles.
  • Negotiating terms including mark-up and discounts on prices of parts and storage charges, with repairers.
  • Monitoring the efficiency of the salvage disposal process and ensure it is carried out within the laid down procedures.
  • Ensuring the safety of salvage vehicles.
  • Attending to clients/service providers' complaints as referred by section heads most especially garage-related complaints.
  • Reviewing the performance of assessors, repairers, Parts Suppliers, towing agents, and investigators against their SLAs.
  • Reporting on trends of the motor's own damage claims on a quarterly basis.
  • Continuing to build a personal skill set by participating in in-house programmes (including e-learning), industry-related courses, and seminars as deemed necessary to expand product and system knowledge.
ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree or Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or related discipline from a reputable institution.
  • Certificate of Proficiency (COP) in Insurance.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in motor vehicle repairs or motor assessment.
